Anthony and I have been traveling for our whole relationship – we even met while we were both traveling abroad! But we were both more than a little nervous as to how this would change after we had children. There were so many stories out there from well-meaning people about how they stopped traveling once they had children. It was quite a big concern for us because we love to travel so much. So we decided to continue traveling as we normally did and see what happened. We did a lot of research and learned a lot just by trial and error. Now we are really regretting that we didn’t baby J an expanded passport. We just got him a regular one and we hit twelve countries before J turned one. I guess that was probably a mistake – trial and error right?
Traveling with a child is different than traveling by yourself or as two adults. Its fun, exciting, challenging, frustrating, and wonderful all at once. It has been fun to see travel from a child’s eyes – to see the wonder of the little things, to once again be amazed at the beauty and grandeur that we as adults forget. There have been many friends who have asked about traveling with kids. Many people want to travel with their kids, but they aren’t sure how to get started. They aren’t sure how to pack, how to take a child on an airplane, or how to keep them entertained. What gear is worth buying? What is unnecessary? Is it worth taking them somewhere that they probably won’t remember?
So we are writing this as a regular feature and hope it will help inspire you to take your little ones on an adventure!
